Scrap Match:... finding outlets for your waste instead of paying to dispose of it: If you produce a lot of a certain type of waste that we normally can't recycle (e.g., stretch wrap), we can sometimes help you save disposal fees by helping to find someone else in the community that has the same type of waste/material ; we can help you work towards cooperatively marketing the waste product. Call the Recycling Hotline, 450-6162, to discuss this issue. Shredding Services:We accept shredded paper for recycling ... we just ask that it not contain adhesives (e.g., post-it notes, stamps, labels, etc.)...please leave the shredded paper in bags before putting them in the blue recycling carts to avoid blowing litter. If you have any questions, please contact us here or at 450-6162. Shredding Services: We do not shred paper; however, Joey Rivers at Profiles (Independent Living Services), 328-5019, and Marieda Priest at the Conway Human Development Center, 329-6851, have programs going. Their clients shred paper and the proceeds support their program. This is not necessarily a recommendation. ILS is bonded but CHDC is NOT; however, their agencies both work under the HIPPA guidelines. You will be responsible for determining what is required for yourown business. We are unaware of any other company within Conway that has a shredding service. Special Handling Waste:If you have any materials that requires special handling, please call 450-6155 to make arrangements. Contaminated Dirt, Asbestos, ect. Please call 450-6155 to make sure we can accept it, and to make arrangements for a specific date and time to bring it out. Two forms will be required to dispose of it safely. We will need a Generator Certificate -description of the waste; and one that formally accepts the waste (to be completed by our department) Medical Waste:For the letter from the department that will help you understand what is required on a local basis, plus the list of companies and contact information for the governing agencies, Dept. of Health and the Dept. of Transportation (DOT) Click HERE The companies listed are the most commonly used in Conway but there are others on the internet. THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION, AND WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CHECK OUT THE COMPANIES YOU DEAL WITH BECAUSE UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, YOU MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MATERIAL...EVEN AFTER IT IS COLLECTED AND HAULED AWAY FROM YOUR SITE. Hazardous Waste:We are a solid waste facility and not permitted to accept any liquids in our landfill (be it chemicals, paints, bodily fluids, etc.. Businesses with these types of products should first follow the proper disposal guidelines on the containers and follow procedures set up by their governing bodies. Although you are responsible for monitoring and keeping these materials out of the regular waste stream, our state governing and inspection agency (ADEQ) requires us to do random waste screenings of businesses due to the ban of certain materials, including bio-hazardous waste and liquids of any kind, from entering the landfill. Please contact our Landfill Manager, Jason, at 733-5606, if you have any questions regarding this procedure. Contact Numbers:
Waste Audits:Companies are often shocked at how much waste can be recycled when they stop to look at their waste stream carefully. We recommend calling us for a free waste audit to help you decipher what can and can't be recycled in Conway at no costto you. If you have items that we normally do not recycle, we can sometimes find someone else in the community that has the same type material and work towards cooperatively marketing the waste product. When that works, everyone wins! Call 501-450-6162, 501-450-6155 or e-mail us today to learn more. Also, the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has just established ARMAX; this is a Web site that allows industries to list their scrap in order to find others who either need that product or can recycle that product...a great way to reduce your waste and disposal costs!
